Top 5 drug store must haves!

I know us little ladies always want to be putting our BEST FACE FORWARD, and there’s a certain confidence that comes along with starting your day in  your most couture make up..however in this economy, even the greatest fashionistas are having the find amazing alternatives that fit not only our color shades but espcially in our budgets! These are my personal “must have” drug store products you’ll never see my kit without. (and that will most definietly be joining me on my ridiculously awesome adevnture this weekend..stay posted for details!)

#1 Abolene Make Up Remover

This has been a product my Mom has sworn by for over 30 years…and she’s living proof it works well and is beneficial to our skin! (Barely has a noticable wrinkle to date!) It removes eye make up, (including waterproof mascara) and deposits amazing mositure into that super sensitive eye area skin. Its soap-less, and is almost the texture of vasaline (but won’t clog your pores like vasaline has known to do). Apply to the eye area, and remove with a soft facial tissue or round cotton. I seriously intend on using this product for the rest of my life!

#2 Revlon Color Stay Foundation

I remember many moons ago while in cosmetology school, we were doing an in depth class on make up..and this product was spotlighted. I have had it in my make up kit every since..I find myself straying away to try the “latest and greatest” but always find myself returning to my trusty ColorStay! It has a broad selection of colors, easy application, great lasting coverage through the day (even for my combination skin) and it photographs well! I even included it in my review of FOUNDATIONS in my MMM a few weeks back. 🙂

#3 Maybelline Color Stick Concealer

Another great Mama-passed down secret that I adore! This creamy concealer goes on smooth and has coverage that is very comparable to much more expensive products! It lasts forever and I use it daily! 🙂

#4 Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Good ole trusty basic mascara that almost every make up bag find a home in. Why? Because it delivers great results for an unbeatable price! I love that the wand is so basic, and is able to bend to make application costomized to my needs. With the SHELF LIFE (or lack of) for mascara, this bargin makes even more sense. I always go for Blackest Black in waterproof for my every day lashes. 🙂

#5 Maybelline Line Works Liquid eye liner

For my personal daily, dramatic eye look my “go to” is always a blacker than black liner. Ive tried MANY liquid liners (even more expensive brands) only to be disappointed. I look for true, trusty color that stays in place and has an easy application. This is the only liner Ive continually been in love with!

I hope these suggestions help! I’d LOVE to know what any of your budget make up must haves are..gotta help one another out in these times.

DIY Baking Soda Scrub

Top of the mornin’ my favorite pamperin’ pals! Im writing this awesome, basic scrub recipe while poolside on a weekend get away! Does life get any radder? Probably not. 😉

I really hope you all enjoyed the past couple festive recipes, Pumpkin Facials and Pumpkin Pie Body Scrub..because today’s recipe is going to be a staple-go to recipe that is smiple, effective and can be done everyday! Im sure I’ll especially need this vital ingredient after this sunshine filled trip, as baking soda is an ingredient that is so effective in aiding in the skins health (and soothing of sunburns!).

Ingredients:

2 to 3 Tbsp. Baking soda
Small amount of water

Directions:

Mix the ingredients into a paste.
Using a circular motion, apply to face and gently scrub.

Rinse and moisturize.

According to www.planetgreen.discovery.com, baking soda makes a top-notch exfoliation. Why? Baking soda is coarse, but not too coarse. It’s the best amount of coarse for removing the top layer of dead skin cells, and if applied correctly, it won’t cause your sensitive facial skin to become red and irritated!

(And thnkfully after this desert sunshine-it helps with sunburns..When baking soda is added to bath water, sunburn sufferers often experience a notable reduction in pain. Place a cup (8 ounces) of baking soda under the running bath tap so it dissolves completely, and soak in a lukewarm tub for about half an hour. Such a bath will soothe the pain – and you won’t have to endure the stinging sensation of a shower. Adding baking soda to a hot bath at any time also helps wash acid wastes out of the body.)

YAY for going Green and inproving our skin..NATURALLY,

xoxo

Biotin

Want hair & nails that grow quicker, longer and stronger? Pssst…here’s a secret!

Vitamins offer so many incredible benefits to our overall health. Even with a well balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, there are key nutrients that could be improved…one being BIOTIN which is directly related to healthy HAIR, SKIN & NAILS.

According to WikapediaBiotin, also known as Vitamin H or Coenzyme R, is a water-soluble B-complex vitamin(vitamin B7) that is consumed from a wide range of food sources. (However there are few particularly rich sources.) Foods with a relatively high biotin content include raw egg yolk, liver, some vegetables, and peanuts. Thankfully it is made in a supplement form and can be taken simply with a meal and a glass of water. 😉 Biotin supplements are available in most pharmacies. Thicker, stronger hair and healthier nails can be seen within a few months. I have personally taken these bad boys and seen a definite difference in my hair and nail strength. It also assists in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and protein. It serves as a critical component of several enzymes and is involved in energy metabolism. The major benefit of biotin however, is its ability to strengthening hair and nails!

I got mine at Wal-Mart for a super low price! 🙂

Makeup 101: Make up SHELF LIFE

Make up 101 continues with the most vital review – make up shelf life and when is the right time to dispose of old products.

All us ladies have a little stash of “just in case” make up. Colors we bought that we thought were fab, came home, HATED but think could work for some occasion. (Really?) That foundation that we discovered once we got home is hideously mismatched and no where near our shade, but think maybe we’ll get that tan sometime soon or are just plain out too lazy to return…and OF COURSE- Mascara that we swear has that last glob of lengthening and volume for our lashes (and even though we have 3 fresh tubes).. so we stash that destined lash clump in a drawer for a rainy day. These behaviors not only lead to clutter and hoarding space for our fresh new beauty finds, but more importantly leads to BACTERIA!

Here’s a run down of make up life’s timelines!

*This isnt pushing you to go out and purchase all new make up..however this is a precaution to save your face from bad, icky, dangerous situations! (These are estimations…I say better safe than sorry. Be cautious!)

Concealer: Up to 12 months

Powder: 2 years

Eyeshadow: Up to 3 years

Foundation: Water Based-12 months Oil Based-18 months

Mascara: 4 MONTHS. (This product is THE biggest breeding ground for bacteria. To prolong shelf life do not pump wand in and out, this exposes it to excess open air. NEVER SHARE THIS PRODUCT WITH ANYONE!)

Liners (eye and lip): 3 years. Sharpen regularly!

Lipstick: 1-4 years. Once its dried up-throw it out. Prolong the life by storing in the fridge. 🙂

Brushes: For personal use, wash every 2-3 months in a mild detergent.

Sponges: For person use, wash weekly and dispose of monthly.

I know it’s hard to part with beauty essentials we paid good money for, but gals..its worth the investment to keep our faces clean and protected.

Heres to staying FRESH,

xoxo

Makeup 101: Foundations

Make up 101 continues after PRIMERS comes FOUNDATIONS.

What is foundation? What kind is right for you? How do you pick the correct shade?

Foundation is used to even out skin tone and conceal blemishes. There are countless different options when it comes to selection, and picking the right option for you, from color to tone, aplication method to coverage is endless.

Foundation and “face painting” have been recorded as early as the old testament and Max Factor’s “PanCake” was the first commercially available foundation in 1937. Women have always desired for a flawless complection!

Foundation classifications come in Warm, Neutral, or Cool.  The “cosmetic pallete” calls for  Yellow as always Warm, Blue as always Cool, and Red as either Neutral (Primary), Warm (Orange) or Cool (Blue-Red).  It is important to understand a person’s skin tone, undertone and what pigments are wanting to be toned. The extent of the coverage can be gauged by Sheer, Light, Medium and full. (sheer being most transparent,  light being 13-18% pigment, medium being 18-23% pigment  and full being 35-50% pigment) and bases are classified by Oil and emollient, Oil-based shakers, Alcohol based,  Powder-based,  Mineral makeup,  Water-based &  Silicone-based.

PHEWWWW, thats a lot of foundation facts! Now lets apply that knowledge.

According to Targetwoman.com , here’s some great tips on FOUNDATIONS. 🙂

  • If you have an oily skin go in for oil-free or oil-control foundation. On
the other hand if you have dry skin shop for moisturizing foundations. If you
have combination of oily and dry skin, determine the most type prevalent in your
skin and purchase a foundation accordingly. Cream-to-powder based foundation
work best for combination skin.Once and for all its over. Ok?
  • Select a foundation that seems close to your natural skin tone. Yellow based
foundations look most natural on all skin types. However if you are very fair,
try pink or a cooler shade. Women make a primary mistake of choosing a
foundation that is too light for their skin in the hope of appearing whiter or
fairer. This ends up looking ashy. You can pick up make foundations in colors
ranging from cream and ivory to peach and darker. Test a foundation color by
applying a thin line of color to the jaw line. This will allow you to compare
color to the skin on the face as well as the neck to avoid any obvious
differences. The color should blend perfectly with your skin tone.Once and for
    all its over.
  • The vital makeup foundation tip is to blend it well. Ensure that your face
and neck appear the same color and the foundation has been well blended near the
    hairline and the jaw line.

Applying makeup foundation

Foundation has to be spread well on the skin to avoid spots and streaks. Liquid foundation can be applied and
blended with a sponge. Apply dots of foundation on your cheeks, chin, forehead and tip of the nose with a makeup sponge or the tips of your fingers. Do not be afraid to experiment with colors and textures. You can then discover what works
best for you. You can choose a foundation with sun block. Apply concealer under your eyes if you need to camouflage dark circles or baggy eyelids. You can blot your face with a tissue to seal the foundation as well as remove any excess. Set
your makeup foundation with loose powder and you can all set for the rest of your makeup!

DIY lip scrub

Issues with lipstick going on smoothly? Chapped lips that never seem lip locking ready? There’s hope ladies…My gift  to you..Simple, natural DIY lip scrub à la Brittany Michele.

Your skin is THE largest organ and needs to be cleansed of dead skin. Its functions of expelling toxins, ample breathing and circulation will be hightend with regualr exfoliation.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Honey (1tbsp)
  • Brown Sugar(1tbsp)
  • Olive Oil
Honey is a natural antioxidant . It helps to keep the skin feeling soft by assisting in the skins’s ability to rejuvenate and refresh delpeted skin. Honey is able to help keep skin hydrated and provents drying, and has been used  as an ancient beauty staple with “honey and milk” to keep skin youthful and smooth. (Even Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra, swore by this beauty secret and  it has been used in Chinese medicine since the 6th century BC to substance both the body and soul!)
Brown Sugar is chalk full of Vitamin B and assists in exfoliating your skin without drying it out. Its texture is course enough to exfoliate your skin but isnt abrasive enough to irritate your skin. Its a natural, no preservative ingredient to insure no harm to your skin.
Mix the Honey and Brown sugar together, Apply the paste textured mixture to your lips and leave on for a few minutes. (Try not to lick your lips..kinda tempting!) and then start GENTLY  “buffing” your lips with the mixture in circular motions. The brown sugar is now exfoliating the dead skin off your lips- do this until all the skin is buffed off. Immediatly apply Olive Oil to your lips as your all natural lip moitsurizer. (This secret was also used by Cleopatra!)
With my addiction to pinker than pink glossy lips, I use this scrub at least 2x a week. It only takes a few minutes and your lips feel instantly smoother, fuller and more hydrated!
With these lips, more x’s than o’s,
xoxo
